Where Am I?

It's an odd thing, but anyone who disappears is said to be seen in San Francisco.

OSCAR WILDE

My Place in the World

"Yes, I can!".

Lo just i necessari.

The research and the interviews have brought results, and I could rent finally the room that I made mine the first time I visited it. And I say finally because just went I came back to ask for it, someone else had rented it. But the day before living Glenn's place (my American cousin) an email had been sent to me: "Manu, can you come this evening to finalize the place?". "Yes, I can!".

I live in a blue house, now. Sharing apartment with Matthew. A 27-year-old guy from New York. Like me, he's pretty independent, and not especially comunicative. The right and necessary. But he makes easy living together. We have some chat when breakfast or dinner time, about American or home stuff.

And the best of the house isn't inside but outside. It's in the center of SF! Take a look...

Patrolling the City

Als 5 minuts me l'havia tret.

No planifico massa. Que allà on vagi, m'agradarà.

Seguirem aprenent.

The first day I went out wearing the jacket. As soon as I went out I came back to leave the jacket at home. The second day I went out wearing a jumper. I took it off in 5 minutes. The sun takes prominence in what seems to be a well into Barcelona's June in San Francisco. And I'm an outsider, but the locals wear shoulder straps and sandals.

While I'm going on with my research for a room where sleep (I'm under the bridge I found by the moment -watch video-), I use the time between interviews to visit the City. I don't plan pretty much. I know that each corner is a pleasure for my eyes. That wherever I go it will like me.

There's more. Finally it seems that, from the University of San Francisco, the Associate Dean of Corporate and International Programs is going to help me. We will see... Whatever it may be, it will be welcome.

Darlings, this is cool. It is a pity that some of us have to go far away to learn how to enjoy the little things. We'll keep learning. And we'll keep patrolling the City.

(I'm enjoying so much the first week, so I can't avoid sharing some pictures I took during my way. This time, in agreement with the free license of the song, the music should be heard)

PS: Qüestion. Why the asian guys have awesome cameras but they don't know how to frame a picture? At least, they took a picture of me...

Welcome to San Francisco

PD2: No és casualitat que la primera cançó sigui With a Little Help from My Friends...

I'm already in San Francisco, and for now I just say that It's wonderful. From the outset, a welcome movie. But don't get used to, because it takes much time to do it...

PS1: Up the Barça!
PS2: That's not a coincidence the first song is With a Little Help from My Friends...

Smelling Christmas

Són unes festes molt celebrades aquí, a on els sobren tradicions i costums.

Peculiar, i molt interessant. Ho he gaudit moltíssim.

Since few days ago that you can smell Chirstmas in Stockholm. It’s a very celebrated holiday here, where they have many traditions and customs. They have Christmas table, Christmas wine, Christmas beer, Christmas cola, Christmas bread... So, in short, many Jul-something (Jul=Christmas). And they have snow this year, too. Snow is one of the most wanted things for a swedish in Christmas. They’ll be sorry about wanting snow this year...

The event that starts this magical weeks is the celebration of Saint Lucy’s Day, the 13th of desember, wich in the I BC century calendar it coincided with the winter solstice.
Saint Lucy brings the light from the darkness, and she’s symbolized with a white-dressed-girl who wears a candle’s crown on her head. With the light, she scares evils and every day will be longer than the day before.
All the children celebrate this day, and all of them dress up for the event to sing Saint Lucy’s songs. Saint Lucy goes with her ladies-in-waiting, the stjärngossar (star boys), the tomtenissar (the Santa Claus assitants), and the pepparkakor (Christmas’s ginger snaps).

I was lucky to share this celebration with the Spanksa Skolan students, who lived it emotioned (you’ll see on the video).

And with the coming holiday the English lesson has finished, where besides of the language, I’ve be able to meet people form everywhere and age (look at the picture). Everyone with a completely different life’s story. Very interesting. I’ve enjoyed it a lot.

Now, a little Christmas-Card with the Saint Lucy’s traditional song in swedish (around home, the city, children at Saint Lucy's Day, Christmas market, ...)

Crystal World

¡Oooooaaaaugh! (badallant). Això d’hibernar és una llauna. Ya m’he cansat.

Fins ara només estavem a 6ºC o 7ºC. Avui, a -5ºC.
I ben glaçat.
Finalment hi he anat. Quasi cap problema.

Què he estat fent durant la hibernació? Rutina. Us explicaré detalladament més endavant.

¡Oooooaaaaugh! (yawning). Hibernating is a bore. I’m already tired. It’s so boring, and also it doesn’t allow me to update the blog!

However I think I’ve chosen the worst day to wake up. The day the temperatures has gone down, definetly. Until now, we were at 6ºC or 7ºC. Today, -5ºC.
A feeling between excitement and fear when you see everythig completely frozen in the morning when you leave home. Everything is white, but it hasn’t snowed. It looks cold. And pretty frozen. It’s a crystal world. When you walk on the grass, it crunches. It reminds when John Spartan destroys Simon Phoenix after he’s been petrified with the freezing capsule from the CryoPrison at the mythical Demolition Man movie (most of the guys know what I’m talking about. If not, click here).
With this scene, I’ve got a difficult decision on the afternoon. I didn’t know how to anticipate the ansewers to the following qüestions: How will you feel running 30 minutes at -5ºC? Will you be able to breath in the fifth kilometre without your lungs getting frozen? I’ve gone, finally. Almost any problem.
But the nature is wise, and it knows how to make up for the cold weather. Also the “expensive to see” Sun little sun has visited us today. It’s the first time since I’m in Sweden that has been sunny all day (it means from 8:30 am to 2:55 pm). I’m not a “taking photos with famous and celebrities” person, but I haven’t be able to repress myself this time, and I’ve taken one with him, the Sun. You don’t see it everyday! By the way, the mark on the face: I’ve cut myself while I was shaving. We can say I’m more a machine-guy. And the face... it was so cold.

What I’m been doing during de hibernation? Rutine. Three mornings a week, the Psicopedagogy internship in Spanska Skolan. I’ll explain you with further details later. By now, I’ve been colaborating with diverse tasks, and specifically with the atention to some students with learning difficulties.
It the afternoon, I’m going on with the English lessons. Nine hours a week. At the end, I’m going to learn something, I’m sure.
And of course, I follow and I don’t miss any Barça’s game! Today on the Internet (what a goal of Ibra...), but we’ve gone to O’Learys Sports Bar in the last ones. We could say that there’s a greater atmosphere than when you’re alone in front of the laptop screen.

Well, people! I let you an inspiring mini-video with some pictures I took this morning...

Sharing Stockholm

I landed on escandinavian lands fiveteen days ago. Enough time to adapt to the place, to his people, to his weather. But I haven’t done it alone. I’ve been lucky for having some company during my first few weeks in Millenium territory.
First of all I’ve been visited for my mother and Gianni. It has been a plaesure sharing some days with them... especially for my stomach! I can’t forget the meals at Pelikan, The Veranda in The Gand Hotel, or in Matbaren, at the hands of who is considered the best cook of Sweden. I run, so I can eat...

With them came also the sun and the “good weather” to Stockholm. The day after they leave: the firt snowfall (in the picture), clouds, and cold. Temperatures that goes almost unnoticed with Maria’s company during the next week. With her (with you) more visits to the city. Maybe repeating some of the week before, although it was a completely diferent experience. So the city changes depending on who you share it with.
We’ve seen Stockholm in this way: the magic of Gamla Stan, the curiosities of Södermalm, the wealth of Östermalm, the life of Norrmalm and the Kulturhuset, the immensity of the City Hall, the peace of Skogskyrkogården cementery, the freshness of the Baltic Sea and Mälaren Lake, the Vasa Museum, the Stadsbibliotek and many others places the city hides.

As a gift, some pictures.

Ubicating

Podeu viure sense saber-ho? Sí. Però jo ho poso, que mai se sap...
Per a fer quelcom diferent, he volgut fer-ho a mode d'audiovisual.
